Alex is down in Malvern today for The Listed Property Show 📍

Bringing together specialists in the care, renovation and conservation of listed buildings, it’s a great opportunity to connect with others working in this area and share knowledge around preserving our built heritage.

A different finish for these sash and case windows…

Being manufactured for a project on the West Coast, these windows will feature a two-tone finish — black internally and white externally.

They’re currently in the paint shop, getting ready for their final finish, and we think they’re going to look great once complete.

Where it all starts…

Before our windows and doors begin to take shape, there’s a lot of timber, machining and preparation behind the scenes.

These are the first stages of a current townhouse project in Edinburgh, where we’re manufacturing 15 sash and case windows - some reaching up to 3 metres in height.

At this stage, it’s easy to see the raw materials and individual components, but over the coming stages they’ll gradually become something very different.

We’ll be following this one through the workshop as it takes shape.

We’re delighted to have been shortlisted as finalists in the British Woodworking Federation Awards this November, with our work at The Boleskine House Foundation recognised in the Heritage & Conservation category.

Following a fire, very little of the original window fabric remained, leaving us to carefully interpret what had survived and recreate the windows to match the historic building.

Working from salvaged window sections, historic photographs and detailed site measurements, we manufactured and installed 48 bespoke Accoya sash and case windows, including a number of individually templated bowed windows where the fire had distorted the original openings.

The finished windows were designed to look as though they had always been part of the building - authentic in their appearance, while incorporating the performance expected of modern joinery.

It was a huge team effort from start to finish, and we’re proud to see the craftsmanship and commitment that went into Boleskine House recognised by the BWF Awards. We’re looking forward to joining the other finalists in November!

A distinctly Scottish detail taking shape in the workshop…

These large timber doors are being manufactured for a Highland estate, with fanlight detailing above both doors, and a Saltire detail incorporated into one of the designs.

It’s a distinctive touch that gives the door a real sense of place, while adding another layer of craftsmanship to the finished joinery.

Here’s a little look at what’s been keeping the team busy in the workshop recently…

Another busy week at Sturrocks, with a mix of projects progressing through the workshop and heading out to sites across the UK.

From more traditional designs to intricate shapes and detailed joinery, there’s always something different taking shape!

The final pieces of Carolina Court are now leaving the workshop…

138 bespoke timber sash and case windows, all manufactured for this Category B Listed building in Dundee.

We’ve shared plenty of this one as it’s progressed through the workshop, and now we’re at the final stage.

We can’t wait to see all 138 windows installed and the full project come together on site. More to follow once they’re in place!

Dual colour timber windows and doors for a farmhouse project…

It’s a popular choice for traditional properties where you want a bold exterior colour without it carrying through into every room. Both colours finished in-house in our paint shop before heading to site.

A busy workshop floor this week, with a fresh run of sashes moving through - including the start of production for The Seymour.

We’re looking forward to getting stuck into this one. More to follow on this one as it develops…

138 bespoke timber sash and case windows, manufactured in our Forfar workshop for Carolina Court - a Category B listed building in Dundee.

Working in partnership with Hillcrest, every window has been crafted to match the building’s original architectural features, while bringing modern thermal performance to the homes inside.

Conserving historic buildings and improving energy efficiency aren’t mutually exclusive - this project is proof of that.

The project is due for completion this autumn and we can’t wait to share the finished result!
